Starting a business is not a easy feat.

While being self-employed brings a lot of freedom, it also brings a lot of challenges. I am doing a lot of things for the first time. The learning process can be a lot of fun but forging new paths is a slow and grueling process. This week, I have the final pieces falling into place. Then I will feel more comfortable advertising and getting more attention to my website.

The more I work on my website the more it feels like my own "Animal Crossing" museum. It's very satisfying to have a place of my own to fill with my creations. I have a lot of new ones in the works but it got to the point where I had to update my website before going any further.

I was avoiding it for a while because, to be honest, product photography is hard and scary. I got a nice used camera and learning how to use that also had a steep learning curve. As an amateur photographer,  "good enough" is truly good enough.

Here are a couple of my awful first attempts with my phone for your entertainment.

An attempt at product photography. Emma Baginsky art & whimsy

The table cloth was a holdover from my son's first birthday, plastic & creased from the dollar tree.

Plants are supposed to make things more aesthetic, well, not in this case.

This is when I learned that my small round dining table was not going to cut it.

My new photography process is a bit of a step up, but still very much a work in progress.

The next steps:

My goal is to work on some smaller canvases. I want have an inclusive price range for my original artwork. Working on 6x6in canvases allows me to have artwork available for under $100.

I also plan to apply to some local art & craft fairs. If you would like to stay up to date on all things Art & Whimsy, subscribe to my email list or check back here. I will be posting more updates <3

I hope you have a wonderful day,

Emma
