During the infamous 2020 lockdown, I was once again inspired to start pursuing my art business. It was not the first time I attempted such a thing, nor would it be my last. Now, 4 years later, I can see where I errored clear as day.
I sat in the dining room toiling over this painting. Going over the same areas over and over again, hyperfixated on every detail. It just wasn't right.
No matter what I did, it was never enough. I stopped working on it and the business never manifested.
In the dungeon of the artist's journey, Perfectionism is tricky boss to beat. A helpful tip I've learned along the way is not attempt the fight solo.
Often, it was other people that would see value in me and my work when I could not. Their loving support would rekindle my confidence. Sometimes all you need is to see yourself through someone else's eyes.
Perfectionism still rears its ugly head now and again, but it is no longer the challenge it once was. In painting, "mistakes" are a matter of opinion and I refuse to hold myself back with self-imposed impossible standards.
